Vision 2020 conference

Vision 2020 conference

Dr Jonathan Boyd, gave the opening presentation at the Board of Deputies conference "Vision 2020: Leading British Jewry into the Future", sharing several key insights from JPR's current research programme.

Using UK Census data alongside some of the findings from JPR's recent National Jewish Community Survey, he demonstrated how in-depth analysis of geographical and age data allows us to map Jewish population change over time, and predict some of the major issues that are likely to face the Jewish community in the coming decades.

He explored what the recent Jewish baby boom in Britain tells us about Jewish life, what the changing size of the middle generation could mean for the future of community leadership and income generation, and how demographic trends help us to see some of the key challenges that are likely to confront the elderly care sector in the years ahead.

Much of the data he shared has been published in recent JPR reports, all of which are available to be downloaded for free in the publications section of this website.

Conference participant, Fay Davies, described the presentation as "extremely interesting" and "the best topic of the day" adding that it contained "excellent detailed work for further study."

The conference was run in conjunction with the University College London's Institute for Jewish Studies and in partnership with the Jewish Chronicle
