The rise of terrorist groups which claim legitimacy in the name of lslam, the lranian revolution of 1979 and the spread of lslamist organizations appear to confirm lslamic fundamentalism as a wave of the future. This report examines the issue of religious fundamentalism in general and charts the growth of lslamic fundamentalism, particularly in the last twenty years, considering whether it presents a strategic threat to the West.
