What the initial results tell us about the state of the British Jewish community

On the day the first census data on religion are released, JPR’s Executive Director Dr Jonathan Boyd joins Michelle Janes, Co-Chief Executive of the JLC and Executive Director of Lead, to take a look at the results and assesses what they tell us about the state of the British Jewish community.
The UK Census takes place every ten years, and since 2001, it has included a question on religion. Census data are of particular value to community leaders and planners because they can provide a remarkably detailed and accurate view of the nation’s Jewish population and allow us both to monitor change over time and predict future trends.
However, they are not free to produce. It will cost JPR £1.5 million to continue to do its essential work in 2025, and as a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of donors to undertake our vital research. Please consider donating to help cover the costs of this particular report or to support JPR’s work more generally.
